Cytological Diagnosis of Breast Tumours by the Imprint Method.
نویسنده
چکیده
Tumour imprints were made from 311 breast tumours at the time of frozen section. Rapid and permanent staining methods were employed and the accuracy of diagnosis was compared with that obtained from frozen and paraffin sections. Two false positives (0.65%) and 16 false negatives (5.15%) were found in the imprint group compared with no false positives and five false negatives (1.6%) in the frozen section group. The cytology of breast imprints is described and the false results are analysed. The possible uses of this technique, both alone and in combination with frozen sections, are discussed.

Background & Objectives: Tubular adenomas are rare benign epithelial tumours of breast affecting predominantly females of child bearing age group. Till now, very small number of cases have been reported in the literature. Present study was carried out to evaluate the clinico-pathological features of tubular adenoma cases diagnosed during three years study period along with discussion of possibl...
متن کاملRole of imprint cytology in intraoperative diagnosis: value and limitations.
Imprints prepared from fresh surgical specimens give excellent cytological clarity. Used intraoperatively, the imprint method can provide valuable information when frozen-section interpretation is equivocal. However, cytologically well-differentiated tumours and tumours with a dense fibrous stroma, constituting 6% of the cases in the present series, cannot be diagnosed by this method. To increa...

BACKGROUND To evaluate imprint cytology in the context of specimens with microcalcifications derived from Vacuum-Assisted Breast Biopsy (VABB). PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 93 women with microcalcifications BI-RADS 3 and 4 underwent VABB and imprint samples were examined. VABB was performed on Fischer's table using 11-gauge Mammotome vacuum probes. A mammogram of the cores after the proced...
متن کاملImprint cytological diagnosis of colonic adenocarcinoma metastatic to liver.
The liver is a common visceral site for metastatic tumours. Radiological features of the liver, fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and histopathological evaluation (HPE) of liver nodules have a significant role in pre-operative diagnosis of liver lesions. In an intraoperative setting, frozen section biopsy plays a major diagnostic modality but the role of imprint cytology of liver nodules i...
